Pokémon Gold/Silver

Bear with me, I'm going to deviate from the usual review format for this one. In any event...

When I play Pokémon Gold/Silver, I do have to ask myself a question. Is this game unlike any other I have played, or is it a combination of all the greatest games I have ever played? I have concluded it is both. Pokémon Gold/Silver combines elements from Mario games, Zelda games, and many others (in fact, one of the gym's puzzles very much resembles one from The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past). On the other hand, the game provides a wide variety of new ideas and elements, such as the tap a feature.

However, the programmers didn't stop at that, once you beat the Elite Four, you can go back to Kanto, where a new set of challenges awaits.

Mewtwo: If you hadn't moved over your R/B/Y team to it...

What did I say about interjecting in my reviews?

Mewtwo: Sorry...

And Kanto isn't empty, either. There are several objectives there, and one final one I won't tell you about.

Story: You're this kid in Johto who wants to master Pokémon, but there's this guy who dresses like Michael Jackson who is your rival.

Gameplay: Basically the same as R/B/Y, but somehow, it just seems better, with the new features, moves and such The AI is also a little better.

3.7 (out of 4)

Graphics: Vastly improved. No longer are we limited to 4-color landscapes. Instead, the game comes to life in full, vibrant color.

3.8

Music & Sound: First of all, the game does offer a headphone option, with one stereo mode. However, unlike Yellow, where stereo sound was a late addition, it is obviously intended from the start here.

3.7

Play Control: I've decided to stop giving perfects in play control. Sorry.

3.8

Raw average (25%, 25%, 25%, 25%): 3.8

Tilt average (40%, 15%, 10%, 35%): 3.8

My score: 3.90 (Classic Game Status)

The Final Say: This will undoubtedly go down as one of the classic video games of all time, especially if I write the history books.

P.S. Prepare yourself for a shock or two in Kanto.
