Pokémon: The Movie 3

Holy crud, this movie is awful. Well, Spell of the Unkown is awful. Let me Break it up:

Pikachu and Pichu: This probably the best part of the whole movie. The art style is completely new, and the music is quite fitting. Also, the announcer chimes in here and there to explain things. The only part I didn't like was the ending, though it isn't that bad.

Spell of the Unknown: Unlike Pikachu and Pichu, this reeks of been there, done that. The whole thing seems like a recycled Mewtwo Strikes Back, except that while Mewtwo is very deep, Entei is incredibly shallow. The whole Delia kidnapping thing seems so Nurse Joy, and the whole child-as-an-adult premise bears striking resemblance to Mewtwo. Don't forget the storm-like crystal barrier of the mansion.

As for characters, Tracey seems to have more lines in this movie than the last, and Lisa is just completely thrown in. Ash is now three for three on getting thrown back by a wall of energy. Molly is okay as a "villain," but the movie doesn't explore her enough.

The look and sound is very mixed. While the visuals are stunning, the new Pokémon theme offers virtually nothing, and I swear the music where Brock battles Molly came from Diddy Kong Racing.

My score: 1.3

The Final Say: Not even an Entei Promo is worth this. This could have been a good movie, but once again we are faced with a complex character that just doesn't get the development (plotwise) she deserves, and no other character with enough intellect to take her on (which is sad considering she's five). It's just one of those movies that makes you want to jump into the screen and yell, "No you idiot, do it this way!" Next time you guys make a movie, ask me for help, okay?
