Pokémon: The Movie 2000 on DVD

Does a better movie make a better disc?

Story: Exactly the same as in the theaters: A collector (Lawrence III) is trying to capture the king of the sea, Lugia. To do this, he must first capture the three legendary birds, sending the world into chaos. At the same time, Ash Ketchum (the Pokémon trainer everyone wishes would get run over by a semi) is picked as "The Chosen One" in a strange island ritual.

Extras:

-French Language Track
-Theatrical Trailer
-Preview of the next Pokémon movie
-Pikachu Pokémon game card
-French and English subtitles
-Multiple music videos (from a TV special)
-Collector Coin
-DVD-ROM Features

3.0 (out of 4)

Gameplay: Well, the menus do some stuff.

Graphics:Well, now there is an even smaller quality difference between cgi and non-cgi, but some of the scenes are very easy to pick out due to their content. Also, this is another full-frame release, resulting in certain scenes being scrunched.

3.7

Music & Sound:The commentary was dropped in favor of a French soundtrack (I sense influence from Misty!). The soundtrack even includes a French version of Pokémon World (probably made from the TV version). To call the soundtracks (both of them 5.1 Dolby Digital) aggressive is an understatement. My only other disappointment is the scaling back of the psychic voice effect.

3.3

Play Control: Well, the menus are simple enough to navigate.

Raw average: 3.3

Tilt average (50%, 25%, 25%): 3.3

My score: 3.2

The Final Say: The better movie doesn't make for a significantly better disc. The two major problems are that this movie is best viewed by a large group of people, and that the disc lacks interesting features.
