Pokémon Tricks, Myths, and Glitches

This editorial points out some of the rarely-seen nuances of Pokémon. Behind Pikachu, Team Rocket, and all the other common elements lies a soft underside. Keep in mind that some of these elements may erase your game. Note: Yes, I realize I've said I wasn't going to have codes on my site, but these are all researched by me, so, um, I mean, stop asking questions!

Tricks

1. The Box Trick (RBY)

One of the lesser known tricks in Pokémon is the box trick. To do it, you first give your Pokémon some experience (the Elite Four is enough), then put them in a box, when they come back out, they will have gained a status point or two. Is this a bug, an incentive to use the boxes? Who knows, but it's the only way in increase your Pokémon's stats at level 100 (which I refer to as "supertraining").

2. Another Chance (Card GBC)

The Game Boy version of the card game has two saves: Diary and interrupt. Save before a battle, and if it goes badly, turn off the machine and try again.

Myths

1. Mew (RBY)

Read My Lips: You cannot get Mew except using a Gameshark (boo!) and by getting it from Nintendo. Anything about a truck, or the S.S. Anne, or anything else is a lie. Mewtwo is better anyway.

2. Rare Candies (RBY)

One common myth about rare candies is that they're as good as the real thing. That is a big fat lie. While rare candies increase your level, they provide no stat experience, which helps increase your, well stats. The only way to get stat experience is either by battling or using the stat boosters (iron, carbos, etc)

Glitches

1. Missingno (aka the Seafoam Islands Trick, aka the Safari Zone Trick, etc.) (RB)

You've probably heard of this one. After leaving the Safari Zone/Talking the the Pokémon capturing man in Viridian city/whatever, you surf up and down the right side of Cinnabar Island. When you do this, there is a chance of a strange, glitchy Pokémon. DO NOT CAPTURE IT. You risk erasing your game. The glitch does have one interesting effect, though. It changes the quantity of the sixth item on your list to 127 or so. Use it at your own risk.
