Can Pay-To-Surf really work?

I'm sure many of you have heard about those web sites that promise to pay you money just for surfing the web. They mainly work like this: While online, you watch a series of ads, and are paid a hourly amount (usually less than a dollar). It gets a little more complicated, though. By referring other users, you can earn a fraction of whatever they make. Most even offer you part of the money from your referrals' referrals.

Of course, it doesn't take a genius to figure out that the advertisers make more money than they spend on the ads. The hope is that the users will buy the product advertised and make money for the sponsor. Unfortunately, the widespread value of such theories is unknown.

Does that mean you shouldn't sign up for one of these programs? I don't think so. keep in mind that any amount of money is still money, and that most people will use this as supplementary income. Besides, you probably won't see too many more chances like this pop up.

But which program should you use? Well, it depends what kind of computer you have and how you surf. The only one that worked on my computer wass ClickDough, which in my opinion was one of the better programs. However, many people are not satisfied with promoting just one (at one point, even SMBHQ webmaster Kyle Orland fell prey to this) resulting in pages that served as little more than money pools for greedy individuals who would make Lawrence III look like a saint. This the single biggest threat, as the perception that such people are uncaring could keep people from.
