PokŽtalk for Sunday, October 24th, 1999: With 19 days and my cold almost gone, this is Steven Reich with PokŽtalk for Sunday, October 24th, 1999. In cartoon news, well, Team Rocket week was okay, but some rather interesting tidbits were divulged yesterday morning. Tonight, on 7th Heaven Beginnings, you can get a sneak peek of M2M's music video, "Don't Say You Love Me." Why should you put up with this terrible excuse for music? Well, the video contains scenes from the movie. Then, tomorrow, on 7th Heaven, they'll show scenes from the upcoming PokŽmon League games. Speaking of PokŽmon: The First Movie, the film now officially qualifies as good, quality, wholesome entertainment. That's right! The MPAA gave it the big G. Now almost nothing can stop its domination at the box office, except maybe Bond, James Bond, which comes out the week after. Of course, this week brings us a new game, PokŽmon Yellow. You can read all about it in my review. Though some may wonder if its a worthwhile purchase, if you're a regular listener of this show, you're probably not one of them. And, before we go to the break, I'd like to remind everyone that this week Kids' WB is having a special Halloween week in the afternoon. Whee. We'll be right back after this word from our fictitious sponsor! Q: Prior to PokŽmon, how many in-house Nintendo games were made into cartoons? Ad: Johnny Cochran's book of quotes Announcer: Have you always wanted to talk like America's most famous lawyer? "Johnny Cochran": If it doesn't fit, you must acquit! Announcer: Well now you can, with his new book, Johnny Cochran's book of quotes. You'll learn phrases like: "Johnny Cochran": If it doesn't work, he'll go berserk! Announcer: And, "Johnny Cochran": Don't ask how, just do it now! Announcer: Johnny Cochran's book of quotes is only $19.95! "Johnny Cochran": Don't delay! Call today! A: 7. Donkey Kong, DK Jr., SMB 1-3, SMW, and The Legend of Zelda. It is a legend no one will forget*.. actually, they did. Anyway, time for a small editorial. Several recent Game Boy Games have featured digitized speech. That is, if you consider "pikaaa" speech. The question is, is this a reasonable use of space, or a waste given the poor quality of the sound? Well, for one thing, it's nice to hear something that differs from the usual chirps. on the other hand, suppose Nintendo had included voice for 10 or 20 PokŽmon in yellow, but none of the rest. Would've seemed incomplete. Limiting it to one PokŽmon was a good idea. *Blatant The Adventures of SMB3 reference. Next, I'd like to discuss the Game Boy Printer. Is it really useful, or just an overblown receipt printer? To tell the truth, sometimes I expect stock prices to come out of the thing. On the other hand, it becomes useful with the Game Boy Camera. Other games, such as SMBDX use it very well. Certainately, it's worth buying, but it's often not used well. Finally, I'd just like to thank the person who saved me five dollars on PokŽmon Yellow by bringing a competitor's ad. So until next time, this is Steven Reich saying, where was the beef, anyway?
