PokŽtalk for Sunday, November 21st, 1999: Gee, you know, I think I'm going to have to think of something to say here. Hello! This is Steven Reich with PokŽtalk for Sunday, November 21st, 1999! In our top story, yet another weekend, yet another episode. Well, next week brings us the best PokŽmon battles, and five episodes of the most under-appreciated show on Kids' WB, The Sylvester and Tweety Mysteries. Also, on Thursday, which in case you didn't know, is Thanksgiving, you know that holiday about those people from England who settled here and met that Squanto guy? Kids' WB will not be taking the day off, if you know what I mean. Also this week, a school kid, whose school I'd like to point out had already banned PokŽmon cards, stole cards from a classmate, ran into the street, and was hit by a car. The other students' first reaction? Steal his PokŽmon cards. While I realize this may be in retaliation, this ridiculous behavior must stop. Use common sense people. I don't care if they're a total scumbag, if someone's hurt, help them. Now that I've got that out of the way, here's PokŽbriefs: 1. Young viewers of the ABC show Who Wants to be a Millionaire may have been screaming at their TV that Frodo is not a PokŽmon. Since TV is not yet interactive, it did little good for the contestant, who decided to walk off with his $250,000. 2. Regis Philbin doesn't have a monopoly on PokŽmon. David Letterman had been heavily making fun of the sensation all last week. 3. Burger King has not been able to keep up with demand for PokŽmon toys. As a result, many have run out. Good luck! And that's PokŽbriefs. We'll be right back! Q: Is that your final answer? Ad: A PokŽmon Christmas Announcer: Are you sick and tired of listening to the old fashioned Christmas songs? Well now you can listen to them with really neat PokŽmon lyrics. There's The Twelve Days of Christmas: On the 7th day of Christmas my true love gave to me: 7 Ducks a-Psying 6 Letts-a-digging Jig-gl-y-puff! 4 PokŽballs 3 Legendary birds 2 Spearows ...and a Pidgey in a pear tree! Or how about Jingle Bells? Flying through the sky, in a really weird balloon, we know what we're looking for, we'll find it real soon. We've got ourselves a plan, to raise a lot of heck, we'd better get that stupid mouse, or the boss'll have our necks! Oh. Jingle Bells, Team Rocket smells, couldn't catch a cold. They'll be chasing Pikachu until they're gray and old, Oh. Jingle Bells, Team Rocket smells, couldn't catch a cold. They'll be chasing Pikachu until they're gray and old! You'll find these songs and many others in A PokŽmon Christmas. In stores now! A: How would I know? It's your final answer, not mine. Okay, now I'd like to talk about the so-called PokŽmon: The First Movie Soundtrack. Now, I'm not a big fan of pop music, and I only liked six of the sixteen tracks on the CD. Billy Crawford's PokŽmon Theme simply cannot measure up to the original, but it's still fairly good. M2M's "Don't Say You Love Me" is also above average. A truly good song is "Lullaby" featuring Mandah and Jigglypuff. "Vacation" by Vitamin C has a good chorus, and is the theme for Pikachu's Vacation. Angela Via's "Catch Me if You Can" is good, but the background singers can't seem to pronounce PokŽmon right. A nice surprise and possibly the best song on the CD is Aaron Carter's "Have Some Fun with the Funk." What seems to separate the winners from the losers? Well, it's whether the song has any PokŽmon influence. Finally, speaking of the Movie soundtrack, there's a 17 grayed out in my playlist. Anyone know what that's about? I think it's just a result of the data portion, which because of my slow computer does me no good. Well, that does it for this week's PokŽtalk. I'll see you next week, but until then, try not to overeat, okay?
