PokŽtalk for Sunday, January 23rd, 2000: More fun than a Yellow Submarine! It's PokŽtalk for Sunday, January 23rd, 2000! In our top story, this week we got a new episode, and a new Theme song. More on that later. We also got a new character, Tracey. Nice addition, if you ask me. Next week is Meowth week, so get ready for some, uh, bad puns. Next weekend is the cereal bowl, which I guess means no new episode for two weeks. In other news, it has been confirmed that PokŽmon: The First Movie will be released on video and DVD on March 21st. DVD extras include a second movie preview, a history of Anime, a PokŽdex, PokŽmon Stadium info, and more. Despite all this information, there is no word on whether it would be letterboxed. And now, PokŽbriefs! 1. Buyer beware, QVC is reported to be selling PokŽmon cards at exorbitant prices. 2. Nintendo also announced plans to release a voice-recognition headset game, previously released only in Japan. 3. An African-American magazine has accused PokŽmon of being racist. They claim that the PokŽmon Jynx is based on an undesirable fictional character. And that's PokŽbriefs! And now, since I am unable to come up with more fake ads, I've created a new segment called Coast to Coast news, proof positive that everything in this world is somehow related to PokŽmon. Part each story is true, part is not. You decide. 1. Last week, the state of Wisconsin began a controversial fishkill operation. The task involves putting a chemical into the lake which kills the carp, which are later replaced by game fish. They made no comment on fears that the carp would evolve into Gyarados and then kill Brett Farve. 2. This week, the Earth passed between the moon and the sun, creating a lunar eclipse. During the eclipse, the moon turned red, due to the light from the sun being scattered through the Earth's atmosphere. In recent eclipses, however, this has not happened, which some scientists blame on volcanic ash. Give the kid a break! 3. Scientists report that there was a major shake-up on Earth 85 million years ago. It was so violent, in fact, that what is now Washington, D.C. was where Cuba is today. Team Rocket has denied any responsibility. And that's coast to coast news! In this week's editorial, I'd like to discuss the new theme song. Now, the old song seemed to be more like "hello, we're PokŽmon, glad to meet you," yada yada yada. The new song is more like, "I know you and you know me, so why do we go and beat the crud out of each other." Also, it seems to contain a lot of characters we'll probably never see again, namely those from the PokŽmon league. The new theme song is also the subject of this weeks (that's right, it's weekly now) poll. What do you think of it? In last week's poll, about a full half of you said you weren't terribly interested in PokŽmon Attack-yet, anyway. I've got something planned to replace the strategy segment, but I'll tell you about that later. For now, that's PokŽtalk, see you next week!
