PokŽtalk for Sunday, January 2nd, 2000: It's January 2nd, 2000! Happy non-new millennium! More on that later. This week, Burger King recalled the PokŽballs used to hold toys from their kid's meals, numbering over 25 million. This makes it the largest toy recall ever. This came after a 13-month-old child suffocated on one of the halves. Another child would have, had the father not intervened. You can return the ball to Burger King for a free small fry. An unrelated woman in Texas has pressed charges against Burger King, although they will probably be acquitted since the parents were obviously negligent. On the TV set, we'll be getting a new episode next weekend, and Brock is leaving the show, at least temporarily. This week.... well, looks like we finally got a decent marathon lined up. Next week is Jigglypuff week, so plug your ears and stuff like that. And now, PokŽbriefs: 1. A Japanese psychologist is suing Nintendo because he believes that the Japanese version of Kadabra is a play on his name. This is reminiscent of the time astronomer Carl Sagan sued Apple because they used him as a codename. 2. A talking Pikachu has come under fire for having a fowl mouth. It turns out that if you rapidly activate the toy, its voice starts to sound like it is producing a certain four letter word. 3. Don't forget, the next PokŽmon movie comes out July 21st, which is a Friday. And that's PokŽbriefs! We'll be right back! (ad) In case you didn't remember, that's from hamster dance, the famous web site. For this week's editorial will talk about the year formerly known as 1999. Actually, I guess it's still known as 1999. Anyway, 1999 was really more like two years. You've got your first half, with your impeachment, Kosovo, and Columbine. It's sorta the at odds with each other half. After that, we get the back to normal half, with movies, and PokŽmon, and all that other stuff. They're really two separate entities. For this week's strategy segment, I'd like to discuss PokŽmon Pinball. What's the secret to high scores? Lighting the cave lights and using the slots. If you light the cave lights, you can get the dual Pikachu kickbacks. Those, along with the bonus multipliers and cave shots themselves will get you major extra balls. The trick is to use the flippers to move the lights left and right. Also, ball saver time is not cumulative. If you get a 60 second saver, then get a 30 second saver when you have 40 seconds left, you go down to 30 seconds. And finally, in the most recent poll, the cop show PokŽmon spinoff beat out the medical drama. Until next time, this is Steven Reich saying, what are days of ald lang syne anyway?
